At a drum set built from a big scallop shell, a cheerful baby shark holds a drumstick in each hand and grins a wide, toothy grin. Two underwater friends cheer him on. On the left is a smiling seahorse with a curly tail and little fins, and on the right a happy octopus with wavy tentacles. The kit has two round drums and two umbrella-shaped shell cymbals on coral-like stands. Bubbles drift through the water, and the sandy seafloor is dotted with pebbles and stones, with tall seaweed on both sides. Large shapes and clear outlines work for preschoolers, and the scales, tentacle suckers and shell ridges give older kids more to do. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big shell drum at the bottom: color its ridges with golden yellow and the lower shell sections with bright orange, leaving the drum front lightly textured.
- 2Fill the seahorse with lemon yellow, then color its fins and top crest with bright orange and tangerine.
- 3Color the shark's fin and both arms with bright blue, and paint the two drum sides chocolate brown with pale cream tops.
- 4Color the umbrella canopies and coral bases with orchid pink, and the umbrella stems with leaf green or lavender purple as shown.
- 5Add lavender purple to the octopus tentacles, and color the seaweed and sea floor rocks with leaf green and warm tan.
- 6Optional: Leave the shark's body, eye whites, teeth and the octopus body white, and finish with light blue bubbles for a sparkly finish.
