A thick, textured trunk with a swirly knot fills the left side of the page, and leaves drift down through the air around it. Farther back, a smaller leafy tree and a slim birch-style trunk with horizontal bark marks stand next to rounded bushes and grass tufts on a gentle hill. At the bottom, a big pile of fallen leaves in many shapes, from pointed maple to oval to lobed oak-style, gives kids lots of small spaces to color. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big pile of fallen leaves at the bottom, mixing tomato red, tangerine orange and golden yellow so the colors blend together.
- 2Color the leaves on the small tree's canopy in tangerine orange and golden yellow, and fill its trunk with chestnut brown.
- 3Paint the top canopy and the yellow-leaved trees on the left and right in golden yellow, adding some marigold yellow for variety.
- 4Fill the bushes and grass with grass green and lime green, then color the drifting falling leaves in tomato red, tangerine orange and golden yellow.
- 5Keep the big trunk, the birch trunk, the sky and the birch canopy white so they stand out against the colorful leaves.
- 6Optional: Add light shading on the leaf pile with a second shade of the same color for a little depth.
