The scowling stare between Garfield and Odie is the best part of this football face-off, since the two are standing nose to nose. Garfield has on a jersey with a big number 1 and holds his helmet by the facemask in one paw. Odie plays coach in a long floppy-brimmed cap, a collared shirt and a whistle hanging from a cord. A football rests on the ground between them, with a few simple shadows marking the grass under their feet, and Garfield's striped tail curls out on the left. Bold outlines and roomy open areas make it friendly for younger kids, while the jersey number, helmet straps and football laces give older kids some small spots to work on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big red areas: color Garfield's football helmet, red jersey top and red shoes using bright red, leaving the number 1 white.
- 2Fill Garfield's fur with warm brown on his head, tail, back leg and paw, adding the brown stripes on his hair.
- 3Color Garfield's face and muzzle with soft peach, then add the brown football in warm brown with its white laces and stripes left white.
- 4Paint Odie's cap and shirt with bright blue and his cap visor and back with medium gray, then add his coral pink ear.
- 5Use golden yellow for Odie's hands and fists, and leave his face, neck, arm and legs white.
