Owl Gazing Upward From a Thin Branch, Animals

Coloring guide
A round-bodied owl sits on a thin branch with its talons curled around the wood. Its head turns slightly to one side, and its large eyes look up and off to the corner of the page. Dark, thick patches frame the face around the eyes, and a small hooked beak sits between them. Short curved lines mark the feathers on the chest, while a few long straight lines show the wing and tail feathers at the lower left. The tail points down past the branch. The big open areas on the body are easy for small hands to fill in. Try soft browns, tans, and grays, then leave the chest lines lighter so the feather pattern stands out. This page also works well for a short talk about nocturnal birds and why owls have such large eyes.
