Here's an owl with big eyes, perched on a leafy branch and holding on with two little feet. Its whole body is covered in patterns that are fun to color. The round eyes have shiny highlights and scalloped rings, pointed tufts stick up from the head, and a small beak sits between the eyes. Rows of leaf shapes, tiny circles and scalloped bands fill the chest, while scale-like feathers cover the wings and the top of the head. A few large leaves sit on each side of the branch, and a small twig end pokes out on the right. Bold outlines and a mix of large and small spaces make it a good pick for kids who enjoy detail, and a nice free printable for a quiet afternoon. Warm browns and oranges look good on the feathers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the head, ears and wings: color the big blue scalloped areas on the head top and both wings with sky blue, leaving the eye whites empty.
- 2Fill the face border, beak and ear tufts with orange and light orange, then color the yellow rings around the eyes with lemon yellow.
- 3Color the belly with teal green and lavender purple bands, then add the orange and light orange leaf shapes down the middle of the belly.
- 4Paint the feet with lemon yellow, the branch and its tip with brown, and the leaves with leaf green.
- 5Optional: Leave the eye whites and the small shine dots in each eye white so the owl looks bright and lively, and add a few soft shading lines at the edges of the wings.
