Picnic Treats Blanket, a 4th of July Cookout Page
Coloring guide
Under a leafy tree, a checkered picnic blanket is piled with treats just waiting for color. At the back, a woven basket with a lattice lid and rope handle sits beside a big striped watermelon, with two juicy slices showing their seeds. Up front, four frosted cupcakes with little flag toppers rest on a round plate, next to two glasses of lemonade with striped straws, ice cubes and lemon slices. One whole lemon with a leaf sits at the blanket's corner. Triangle bunting with dots and stripes hangs across the top, and tufts of grass dot the lawn. Bright red for the watermelon slices with green rinds and sunny yellow for the lemons look great. Print it free for a summer party, class activity, or a calm afternoon at the table. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background areas: color the grass and tree canopy in grass green, and the tree trunk in brown.
- 2Fill the checkered tablecloth with coral and bright red squares, leaving some squares white for a classic picnic look.
- 3Color the watermelon in dark green on the outside with grass green and pale green stripes, then fill the red flesh of both slices with bright red and leave the seeds white.
- 4Color the picnic basket in golden brown, with the lid and handle left mostly white in the weave pattern, then add the lemons in golden yellow and the lemonade in pale yellow.
- 5Color the cupcake frosting in bubblegum pink, the plate in light blue, and the bunting flags in sky blue and golden yellow.
- 6Optional: add a little shading with a darker shade of each color along the edges of the basket and watermelon to make them look rounder.
