Coloring guide

A long-bodied dachshund is drawn in profile, facing left with its head lifted and its nose pointed up. The ear is floppy and rounded, the eye is small and dark, and the nose is a solid black patch. One front paw is stepping forward while the other three feet stay planted on a few scratchy lines of ground. The tail is thin and curves upward at the back. Light pencil-style shading marks the chest, shoulder, ear and hind leg, which gives the dog a soft look. The large open areas on the body are easy to fill in, even for younger kids. Try coloring it in classic dachshund brown or black and tan, then use the short hatch lines as a guide for adding darker fur texture. It also works well for a lesson on dog breeds and body shapes, since the long back and short legs are so clear. Print it free for home or classroom use.
