Rising out of rippled pond water, a grinning little shark wears a leaf-shaped hat knotted at the side. Its eyes are big and round, and a row of small teeth shows in its open smile, with the tall dorsal fin behind it. Up above, a curious parrot sits on a thick vine branch, tail feathers hanging down and head turned toward the shark. Big monstera leaves frame the corners, and more vines, small leaves and leafy bushes line the water's edge. Younger kids with chunky crayons can handle the large open shapes, while the ripples and feathers give older kids something to work on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the shark body and fin using ocean blue, leaving the small highlight streaks on the body white.
- 2Color the parrot's body and tail in scarlet red, and its wing and lower feathers in sky blue.
- 3Fill the big leaves, plants and small leaves with leaf green and fresh green, keeping the bright leaf veins as white lines.
- 4Color the hat stripes and bandana in scarlet red and deep red, leaving the white panels of the hat white.
- 5Add warm brown to the branch and vines, golden yellow to the parrot's beak, and cool gray to the rocks.
- 6Finish with coral pink for the open mouth, blush pink along the inner mouth, and leave the eye whites and background white. Optional: add a slightly darker blue along the bottom of the shark for depth.
