Caught right in the middle of his windup, this smiling young pitcher balances on one leg with the other knee lifted high. He's dressed in a baseball cap, a short-sleeved jersey, belted pants, tall socks, and cleats. One hand holds a baseball up near his shoulder while the other is tucked in front inside a big stitched glove, and he glances back over his shoulder with a friendly grin. A small dirt mound rises under him with a flat rubber plate beneath his foot, and a few grass tufts are scattered about. A wooden fence and rounded, puffy bushes fill in behind him. Clean, bold lines and big open spaces keep it easy for crayons or markers. A bright red cap and socks with matching jersey trim would look great, plus a warm brown glove. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the grass on both sides of the field and the big field area with grass green, leaving the mound and the fence white.
- 2Fill the pitcher's cap top, cap sides, socks, belt, and sleeve bands with cherry red, leaving the thin white stripes on the socks and belt white.
- 3Paint the hair and the cap's darker edge with chestnut brown, then color the glove and its laces with caramel brown.
- 4Color the face, hands, and arms with peach skin, keeping the eye whites and the smile line white.
- 5Fill the shoes and their soles with charcoal gray, and add pale gray to the mound and plate area.
- 6Optional: add a few darker shadows along the sock edges and under the cap brim to make the drawing pop.
