This tractor has a big friendly face: wide sparkly eyes, rosy cheeks, an open smile and a grille of horizontal slats right under its mouth. There's a small cab with a rounded roof, a steering wheel you can see through the window, and a tall exhaust pipe sticking up on the right. The tires are large with chunky zigzag treads, and the big back wheel has a hubcap ringed with small bolts. Along the bottom, three simple flowers poke up between little tufts of grass. Bold, clean lines and roomy shapes keep things easy for preschoolers and early learners. A blue or red body with yellow hubcaps and dark gray tires looks great, and pink, purple and orange petals will stand out on green grass. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tractor body: color the front face and hood in tomato red, leaving the two big eyes and their white shine spots empty.
- 2Fill the roof canopy and the grille bars in lemon yellow, then color the exhaust pipe and steering wheel in slate gray.
- 3Color the three large tires and the front tire in charcoal gray, keeping the yellow hub circles bare for the next step.
- 4Fill the hub centers with golden yellow and the wheel hubs with lemon yellow, then color the bumper in silver gray.
- 5Paint the cabin windows in sky blue and the smiling mouth in bubblegum pink.
- 6For the flowers, color the petals in bright blue, lavender purple, and bubblegum pink, the centers in lemon yellow, and the leaves in grass green and lime green. Keep the background white. Optional: add light shading on the tires and the red body to make them look rounder.
