Hot Air Balloon Ride with a Smiling Child
Coloring guide
A happy child peeks over the side of a woven basket under a big hot air balloon. The balloon is decorated with a row of hearts, a band of stars and scalloped trim. Three little birds flutter around it and a couple of puffy clouds drift close by. Far below, a winding river curves through rolling hills, and a village sits there with a church steeple, small houses, round bushes and tall trees. Since the balloon is split into panels and bands, kids can choose a fresh color for each section. Red or pink works for the hearts and sunny yellow for the stars, then blue for the river and green for the hills. Just download and print this free page for an easy afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big balloon: fill the tall panels with bright blue, grass green, and bright orange, keeping the colors in a stripe pattern around the balloon.
- 2Color the red scalloped bands and the heart-decorated top band in bright red, then fill the yellow parts of the bands and the stars with lemon yellow and gold.
- 3Add the landscape: color the hills and fields light green, the bushes and trees forest green or grass green, and the river sky blue, leaving the small highlights white.
- 4Color the basket with caramel brown and tan bricks, then add the boy with peach skin, chocolate brown hair, and a bright blue shirt, leaving his eye whites and sleeve highlights white.
- 5Finish the village with cream walls and bright red or burnt orange roofs, then color the birds and clouds in sky blue and pale blue.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading to the balloon's lower edges and the hills with a deeper shade of the same color for more depth.
