A leafy strawberry plant grows from a small mound of soil, with a few grass tufts at its base. Five strawberries dangle from curving stems. Two are big and plump, one on each side, and the rest are smaller. Each one wears a leafy green cap and is covered in little seed marks. Three flowers with rounded petals and detailed centers sit among the fruit, and the large toothed leaves have clear veins to color around. Younger kids can tackle the big berries and leaves, while older ones might enjoy the seeds and flower centers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big strawberries and the small ones hanging on the plant, coloring them strawberry red and leaving the tiny seed dots white.
- 2Color all the leaves leaf green, from the large top left leaf down to the bottom left and bottom right leaves, keeping the flower petals white.
- 3Fill the green caps and tops of the strawberries with fresh light green, so they look fresh on top of the berries.
- 4Color the small stone at the bottom warm brown and shade the soil and little stems with medium gray.
- 5Leave the flower petals, stems, grass tufts and ground white, so the flowers stand out against the green leaves.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of leaf green along the leaf veins or a little extra gray under the berries for depth.
