Underwater I Spy with Fish, Seahorse and Crab

Tall wavy seaweed fills this ocean scene, and a lot of sea life is tucked in among it: four smiling fish, a seahorse, a starfish and a small crab. Up top, a striped angelfish faces a round fish with bold stripes. A scaly fish and a spotted fish swim through the middle. Over on the right, a curly-tailed seahorse floats beside the kelp. Down on the sea floor, a dotted starfish and a grinning crab rest among pebbles and a leafy plant. Round bubbles drift across the whole page, so kids can count them or hunt for each creature and its patterns, which makes this a good I Spy activity. Big open shapes work well for crayons and markers, while the little dots and scales give older kids some fine detail to work on. Orange stripes on the clownfish-style fish and a sunny yellow seahorse look great against green seaweed. A free printable for a quiet afternoon at home or at school. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tall seaweed and plants on both sides: color them forest green, then add lime green and light green touches for variety.
- 2Fill the gray rocks at the bottom with medium gray, and color the crab body and claws tomato red.
- 3Color the yellow spotted fish and the angelfish with lemon yellow, then add ocean blue stripes on the angelfish, leaving the spots on the spotted fish white.
- 4Paint the clownfish orange with tan brown stripes, and color the middle fish baby pink with a hot pink tail.
- 5Color the seahorse lavender with pale lilac bands and a violet tail fin, and fill the starfish amber, leaving its dots white.
- 6Optional: Color the bubbles pale blue and leave eye whites and small highlights white for a sparkling finish.
