This little bird looks pretty pleased with himself. He stands on two feet, chin tilted up, heavy-lidded eyes rolled upward as if he just heard something a bit silly. It's Zazu, the royal advisor from The Lion King. Three tall, narrow tail plumes sweep up and to the left, and the biggest has a couple of bands near its base. One wing is held out at his side, and his big curved beak makes him look wonderfully grumpy. With no background at all, it's a clean sheet for small hands, and the wide feather shapes are good practice for coloring inside the lines. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tall tail feathers: color the big central feather and its top tip in royal blue, then the two side feathers in light blue, leaving the thin white bands between them.
- 2Fill the wing and the head crest in sky blue, and color the throat and the long upper part of the tail feathers in royal blue.
- 3Color the round body in pale yellow, leaving the fluffy chest area a little lighter for a soft look.
- 4Paint the big beak in golden yellow, both the upper and lower parts, and add the beak tip and edge in the same golden yellow.
- 5Color the feet and toes in orange, and add light blue to the eyelid and the corner of the right eye.
- 6Optional: Leave the eye white empty so it stands out, and add a few short pencil strokes in a slightly darker shade to give the feathers some texture.
