Curious About an Old Boot, Ariel and Flounder

A mermaid with very long hair sits on a rock at the water's edge, holding up an old lace-up boot in one hand and looking at it with a curious smile. She wears a shell-style top, and her tail curls around in front of her with long fin lines flowing down toward the water. Below her, a little fish with a big smile and a tuft of fins on top of his head peeks out of the ripples, looking up at her. Simple wavy lines mark the water around them. The big open areas on the tail and hair are easy for small hands to fill in. Try coloring the tail in two or three shades of green or teal, then talk about why a sea creature might be puzzled by a boot.
