This baby dragon is all smiles, with small horns, a spiked back and little bat-style wings. It's tipping a flower-decorated watering can over two big daisy-like blooms, and water drops fall onto the petals. A stepping-stone path winds behind it toward a wooden garden gate set in an arch of flowers and vines. Three butterflies flutter around, one leaving a dotted flight trail, and more flowers and leafy bushes fill in the background. Big petals and simple shapes keep it easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids, while the garden details give older children more to do. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background areas: color the bushes, grass and lawn around the dragon in grass green and lime green, leaving the flower arch, the eye shines and the eye whites white.
- 2Fill the dragon's body, head, arm and leg in yellow green, then color the lighter belly patch and the tail area in pale yellow.
- 3Color the wings and horns in pale yellow, and paint the watering can in steel blue with its spout and rim in sky blue.
- 4Color the big daisy-style flowers at the bottom in rose pink, with the centers left as they are or lightly dotted, and add the leaves in grass green.
- 5Fill the gate in wood brown and the stone path in stone beige, then add the small butterflies and tiny flowers in lavender purple and ivory white.
- 6Optional: add a little shading with a darker shade of each color on the shadow sides of the dragon and flowers for extra depth.
