Here a baby dragon pokes out of a cracked, polka-dotted egg with a big happy grin. It has shiny eyes, two horns, small spikes down its neck and a round snout, and curved stripes run across its belly. Tiny claws grip the jagged edge of the shell, and two bat-style wings stretch out to the sides. The egg is covered in circles with a wavy band around the middle, and it rests in a nest of straw-like grass with broken shell pieces lying around. Clear outlines and large shapes make this free printable easy for younger kids. Mint green or soft purple would suit the dragon, and sunny yellow and orange dots on the egg help the baby stand out against its shell. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the egg body and lower shell pieces in sky blue, leaving the eye shines and highlights white.
- 2Color the dragon's head, arms and body in leaf green, then fill the belly bands with pale cream.
- 3Fill both wings in light teal, and color the horns, back spikes and claws in bright yellow.
- 4Add the purple stripe across the egg in soft purple, then the dots in lilac, blush pink, light pink, peach and bright yellow.
- 5Finish the nest grass and the tongue in golden yellow and hot pink, keeping the eye shines white.
- 6Optional: Add a slightly darker stroke of the same color along one side of the egg or wings for a bit of depth.
