Next to a big, rounded E, a smiling baby elephant lifts its trunk and sends a fountain of water into the air. Droplets big and small fall around the letter, and a splashy puddle spreads along the bottom of the page. The elephant has big round eyes, a wide happy mouth, a tuft of hair, large floppy ears and a little tail with a tufted tip. Tufts of grass sit on either side of the scene. Thick outlines and roomy shapes suit preschoolers learning E, and this free printable works for early readers too. Soft gray for the elephant, bright blue for the droplets, and a bold orange or purple E would all look great. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big letter E with golden yellow, and leave the open space inside its curves white.
- 2Color the elephant's body, head, face and trunk with light gray, keeping the eye whites white.
- 3Add coral pink to the big ear and the inner ear behind the trunk, then color the tail tip charcoal gray.
- 4Color the puddles, the water spray at the trunk, and all the falling water drops with sky blue.
- 5Fill the elephant's feet with pale cream to finish the base colors.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker gray under the belly and legs for depth, and leave a tiny white dot in each eye for shine.
