Little Owl Watching Three Butterflies by the Blossoms

On a leafy branch sits a round-eyed baby owl, gripping with its little talons and looking up at three smiling butterflies fluttering above. The owl has a tuft of feathers on its head, a tiny pointed beak, scalloped belly feathers and wings tucked at its sides. Three blossoms with round petals line the branch, surrounded by big pointed leaves. Every butterfly has a happy face, curly antennae and wings with oval and circle patterns, which are good practice for small details. Lines are bold and shapes are open, so this free printable works for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the owl's brown head feathers, wings, and the branch using warm brown, pressing lightly so the strokes stay smooth.
- 2Fill the owl's face and belly with soft cream, leaving the big eye whites and the feather marks as clean white.
- 3Color the leaves in leaf green and the flower petals in rose pink, then fill the flower centers and beak with golden yellow.
- 4Paint the three butterflies: sky blue for the top left one, lavender purple for the top right one, and rose pink for the small one on the right.
- 5Add orange to the owl's feet and the butterfly bodies, then use a dusty mauve touch on the lower wing of the top right butterfly.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the owl's wings and the edges of the petals to make them pop.
