A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: color the bushes and the far grass patches in grass green, and the grass patches near the runner in light green.
- 2Fill the runner's helmet and its brim in bright red, adding dark red to the shaded edge under the brim.
- 3Color the fielder's cap and shirt in royal blue, and his sock in royal blue as well, leaving the sleeves and pants white.
- 4Add peach skin to both boys' faces, arms and hands, then use light tan and chestnut brown for the hair and the mitt laces.
- 5Fill the runner's jersey, pants and the dust cloud with off-white or light gray, and color the shoes and socks in charcoal gray with light gray soles.
- 6Optional: add a little warm gray shading on the runner's shoes and the lower edges of the pants to give the picture some depth.
