Birthday Cake with Three Candles and Dripping Icing

A round cake sits on an oval plate, with thick icing draped over the top and dripping down the sides in wavy, uneven edges. The cake body has vertical lines that split it into panels, a bit like a pudding mold. Three lit candles stand on top. Two taller ones sit at the left and right, each with melted wax running down the sides, and a smaller candle sits in the middle, tucked into what looks like a cherry or small round fruit. Each candle has a pointed flame. The big open shapes are easy for small hands, and the drippy icing gives older kids something to trace carefully. Try coloring each panel of the cake a different shade, then use warm yellow and orange for the flames. You could also count the candles together and talk about how old someone is turning.
