Candle Circle and Dove, a Martin Luther King Jr. Day Page
Coloring guide
A dove with wide-open wings glides across the top of the page, a leafy olive branch in its beak. Underneath, a small round table with slim legs holds a ring of ten candles of different heights, each with a flame and little glow lines around it. Sprigs of olive leaves are tucked around the candles along the table's edge. Wavy wax drips on the candle tops and feathered wings give kids lots of small spaces to color, so it suits steady hands and patient colorists. Soft sky blue or light gray looks lovely on the dove, fresh green on the leaves, and warm yellow and orange on the flames. Print this free page to grow your coloring collection. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the candle bodies: color the tall and short candles cream, leaving the thin highlight streaks on the sides white.
- 2Color the flames golden yellow, and leave the small glow spots near the flame tips white.
- 3Fill the candle tops and wax drips with pale yellow so they stand out from the cream bodies.
- 4Paint the round table top and its edge tan brown, then color the table legs dark brown.
- 5Add the olive branch in leaf green, and keep the dove's body, wing and beak white with just its black outlines.
- 6Optional: Add a little dark brown shading along the lower edges of the candles and table to make them look rounded.
