Evergreen Wreath with Bow and Christmas Lights

One big round evergreen wreath fills the page, with a large ribbon bow on top that has a center knot and two long tails hanging down. The ring is made of layered, feathery fir branches, which are fun to fill in with short strokes. Three scaly pinecones sit around the wreath, and a string of light bulbs loops along the branches, joined by a wavy wire. Each bulb is a classic teardrop with a little base, so kids can give every one its own shade. The middle of the wreath is left open for lots of white space. Deep greens work for the branches, warm browns for the pinecones and red for the bow. Then take turns with yellow, blue and orange on the bulbs. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big bow loops, tails and center knot in bright red, leaving no gaps.
- 2Fill all the evergreen branches around the wreath with fresh green, working from the top down.
- 3Color the light bulbs: bright red for the top and lower bulbs, golden yellow for the side and bottom bulbs, and sky blue for the lower right bulb.
- 4Color the pinecones in light caramel brown first, then add dark chocolate brown on the darker scales and the lower rows.
- 5Add deep pine green to the small light cord caps and wires, and keep the center opening white like the background.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of fresh green or deep pine green on the branches to give the wreath more depth.
