Five round ornaments with happy faces dangle from a wavy string of lights, right under a bundle of pine branches tied with a big bow. Every ornament has a ridged cap, dot eyes, rosy cheeks and a tiny smile, so the whole row feels playful. Long needled evergreen branches fan out on both sides above them, with two pinecones tucked in and a round button at the center of the bow. Bold outlines and roomy shapes are easy for younger kids, while the needles and pinecone scales give older kids more to do. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the bow and the two outer red ornaments in bright red, leaving the small center knot of the bow for the same red.
- 2Fill the pine needles and branches with forest green, leaving the thin white tips along the needles uncolored for a fresh look.
- 3Color the two pinecones and the thick branch stems in warm brown, shading the scales in clear lines.
- 4Fill the middle ornaments: golden yellow for the second one, leaf green for the center one, and sky blue for the one on the right.
- 5Use olive green on the lower branch stems near the bow to add some variety to the greenery.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shade on the bottom edges of the ornaments and the pinecones to make them look rounder. Leave the ornament caps and the string wire white.
