Cracked Easter Egg with a Smiling Chick

Coloring guide
Peeking out of a cracked eggshell, a happy little chick rests both tiny wings on the jagged broken edge. Its big round eyes have sparkly highlights and its open beak makes a cheerful smile, with a small tuft of feathers on top of its head. The large egg below is smooth and empty, so kids can fill it with polka dots, stripes, zigzags or one solid color. Little tufts of grass grow around the base of the shell on both sides. Thick outlines and big open spaces keep this free printable easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft yellow suits the fluffy chick, orange works for the beak and wings, and fresh green is good for the grass. A pastel pattern on the shell would look pretty on the fridge or a classroom wall in spring. This page is part of our Easter coloring pages collection — check out Disney Easter and Fall too.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the cracked egg shell at the bottom sky blue, leaving the grass and background white.
- 2Fill the chick's head and both wings with golden yellow, going around the eyes.
- 3Color the beak warm orange.
- 4Fill the open mouth with soft pink.
- 5Keep the eye whites and the small shine dots in the eyes white so the chick looks bright and lively.
- 6Optional: Add a few lighter or darker strokes of the same colors to give the shell and the chick a little depth.
