Teacup and Milk Bottle Picnic: A Cuphead Tree Scene

On a checkered picnic blanket in the shade of a big tree sit two cheerful little characters. One has a teacup for a head, with a handle on the side, and wears a puff-sleeved dress. The other has a milk bottle for a head with a cap on top, and a simple shirt. Each holds a sandwich and smiles with big sparkly eyes. A plate of grapes, an apple and two strawberries sits in front of them, and a woven picnic basket rests at the left edge of the blanket. Grass tufts and two flowers fill the corners. The wide tree trunk and scalloped leaves leave lots of space for greens and browns. A red and white blanket looks classic, and the fruit can be bright and juicy. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big brown areas: fill the tree trunk and its base with warm brown, and color the tea inside the cup with warm brown too.
- 2Color the top leaves and the small leaves at the bottom corners with leaf green, then add the grass tufts in leaf green.
- 3Paint the teacup, the girl's arms, hands, and legs with golden yellow, and color the bottle caps sky blue.
- 4Color the girl's dress and sleeves with bubblegum pink and blush pink, then fill the boy's shirt, shorts, and sleeves with sky blue and his pants with royal blue.
- 5Fill the checkered blanket by alternating tomato red, salmon, apricot, light peach, and pale cream squares, leaving some squares white. Color the basket in caramel brown, the grapes in grape purple, the strawberries in tomato red, and the apple in pale cream.
- 6Leave the eye whites, the milk bottle body, the flower petals, the sandwich bread, and the plate white. Optional: add a little soft shading on the sandwiches in pale gold and the bottle with light gray pencil strokes for depth.
