Ten cupcakes sit on a tall three-tier cake stand, each one topped with swirled frosting, tiny hearts and a heart-shaped pick. The top tier holds three, the middle tier holds three, and the wide bottom tier holds four. The stand has scalloped plate edges and a round pedestal base. A large open heart rises from the center of the top, and a string of heart bunting stretches across the background. Ruffled paper liners, small heart sprinkles and big heart shapes mean kids get lots of different spaces to color. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the cake stands: color the three tiers and the base in rose pink, and the scalloped rims and center pole in light pink and bubblegum pink.
- 2Next, fill the cupcake liners with soft purple, aqua teal, sky blue, tangerine orange, golden yellow and rose pink, so each cupcake gets its own bright stripe color.
- 3Color all the heart toppers, the hanging garland hearts and the small heart picks in cherry red, and fill the big heart at the top with light pink.
- 4Brush honey yellow onto some frosting swirls and the sides of a few cupcakes, leaving the rest of the frosting cream white so the tops look soft and fluffy.
- 5Keep the stand pole highlights white, and leave the background white too.
- 6Optional: add a little shading with a slightly darker shade of the same color along the bottom of each liner and under the frosting swirls to make the cupcakes pop.
