A chubby little duckling sits on a big lily pad in the middle of a pond, with a small flower on top of its head. It has big shiny eyes, round cheeks, a wide smiling beak, tiny wings and two webbed feet resting in front. Two smiling dragonflies hover above, and tall cattails with long leaves rise on both sides. One water lily blooms at the bottom left and another near the right edge, and a few more lily pads float on the rippling water. The large open shapes are easy for small hands, so this free printable suits preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft yellow for the duckling, orange for the beak and bright pink for the flower will stand out against green lily pads and brown cattails. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the duckling's body golden yellow, leaving the flower petals white and filling the flower center with golden yellow too.
- 2Fill the big lily pads and the grass blades with bright green, then add leaf green to the shaded edges of the leaves and pads.
- 3Color the cattail stalks and tops cocoa brown, and fill the wide pond water with sky blue or soft gray green for a calm look.
- 4Color the feet and beak tangerine orange, the cheeks and pink lotus flowers soft pink, and the dragonfly bodies sky blue.
- 5Color the dragonfly wings pale sky blue, and keep the eye whites and small eye shines white so the duckling looks bright.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker leaf green or teal blue along the edges of the lily pads and water for depth.
