A wide-eyed little owl with a feathery tuft and an open, smiling beak grips a leafy branch with both feet while three smiling fireflies buzz around it. Dashed lines show where each firefly has flown, a neat detail to trace with a crayon or marker. Tall blades of grass fill the bottom of the page, and three spotted mushrooms are tucked in among them. Scalloped wing feathers and V-shaped marks on the chest leave lots of room for patterns and layered color. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the owl's face, belly and the mushroom stems with cream, leaving the big eye whites and small highlights white.
- 2Color the owl's wings, lower body, feet and the branch with medium brown, and the darker end of the branch with dark brown.
- 3Paint the leaves and grass with leaf green and bright green, adding a few blades in each shade.
- 4Color the owl's beak, the bees' bodies and heads, and the owl's feet toes with golden yellow; add a coral pink tongue.
- 5Fill the bee wings with sky blue and the mushroom caps with tomato red, leaving the round spots white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker brown strokes along the owl's wing feathers for extra depth.
