This ocean scene is full of action. Nemo, the little clownfish, hangs in mid-air from a thin line that drops from the top of the page. Down below on the left, a big wavy splash rises from the water. In the lower half, Mr. Ray pokes up from the surface with a wide, open-mouthed grin, one wing flipping a curl of water into the air. A boxy, boat-like shape with slatted panels sits on the right, giving kids some straight edges to color among all the curvy water lines. Nemo's stripes are easy for little hands to find. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sea areas: color the water on the left and the splashing waves around the vent using sky blue, then add aqua blue to the lower water and splashes.
- 2Fill Mr. Ray's body with medium gray on the back and head, and use silver gray on his lighter belly and the building walls.
- 3Color the building's front faces and side panels with silver gray and medium gray, and shade the vent slats with charcoal.
- 4Paint Nemo with orange on his body, fins and tail, and add golden yellow to the stripe on his head.
- 5Add dark gray to Mr. Ray's tail flipper and the eye pupil, and color his eye pink with coral pink, leaving the eye white untouched.
- 6Optional: Add a little ice blue highlight to the foam and leave Nemo's white stripe and the eye white bright white for contrast.
