Leaning back with a grin, this baby dolphin holds a big striped beach ball right on the tip of its snout. It has a large round eye with a sparkle, a curved smile, a rounded forehead, and flippers sticking out to each side. A lighter section runs down the middle of its belly. The dolphin rises out of the water, and a few wavy lines across the bottom show the sea. The ball has curved panels and a little round button on top, so there are plenty of sections to fill in. Red, yellow and blue panels on the ball look cheerful next to a soft blue-gray dolphin. Bold lines and simple shapes make it a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the dolphin's main body, both flippers, and the lower side in sky blue, leaving the eye white.
- 2Fill the light belly area of the dolphin with pale blue to create a soft contrast.
- 3Color the beach ball: bright red on the left panel, golden yellow in the center panel, tangerine orange on the right panel, and sky blue on the top panel.
- 4Add leaf green to the small panel at the top right of the ball, and keep the round center circle of the ball white.
- 5Color the dolphin's open mouth coral pink and the inside of the mouth charcoal gray.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker sky blue along the edges of the body for a little depth, and finish with a white highlight in the eye.
