English Setter Standing Alert in Tall Grass

A long-legged setter stands in profile facing left, nose pointed forward and tail raised high behind it. The tail ends in a thick fringe of feathery fur, and the long, soft ears hang down beside the face. Small patches of speckles are scattered along the back, shoulder and hind leg, with wispy lines suggesting feathering on the chest, belly and back legs. Loose blades of grass are sketched around the paws and across the bottom of the page. The outlines are clean and the body is large, so it works well for crayons, colored pencils or markers. Try coloring the speckled spots in a different shade from the body, such as orange or brown on white, then talk about how hunting dogs freeze and point when they notice something nearby. You can print it free at home or in the classroom.
