Five Bananas in a Bunch Between Two Leaves

At the top of this printable page, five plump bananas hang from one thick stem, tips pointing down, each with a small round end. A big leaf with a wavy, notched edge and curved veins peeks out from behind the bunch on each side. The bold outlines and large open spaces are good for preschoolers and early elementary kids still building pencil control. Because the bananas overlap a bit, older children can shade each one a different way. Sunny yellow fits the fruit, soft green fits the tops of the stems, and two greens on the leaves will make the veins show. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the five bananas in banana yellow, coloring the center banana, the right banana, the left middle banana, the right lower banana, and the far left banana, leaving the thin white highlight streaks along their edges.
- 2Color the two large leaves on the left and right in leaf green, working around the dark leaf veins so they stay visible.
- 3Fill the green stem neck where it joins the bananas with grass green, keeping the lines of the stem clean.
- 4Color the cut top of the stem in chestnut brown, using short strokes to suggest its rounded end.
- 5Fill the small inner banana and the little yellow area where the bananas meet at the top with banana yellow, blending it into the neighboring bananas.
- 6Optional: Add a second layer of darker green on the leaves and a little extra yellow shading along one side of each banana for depth.
