Five round-eyed, smiling fish swim in a circle around a big ridged scallop shell in this oval, mandala-style design. One fish is at the top and two more face inward on each side. Every fish has large scales, flowing fins and tails, and a cheerful curved mouth. Wavy seaweed fronds fill the gaps between them, and the plants above and below the shell mirror each other. Bubbles in small and medium sizes float around the outer edge and make a soft border for the oval. The scales are a good size for crayons and colored pencils, so it's nice practice for staying inside the lines. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill each fish head with lemon yellow, leaving the eyes white with black pupils.
- 2Color the fish scales with bright blue and sky blue, mixing in a few light turquoise scales here and there.
- 3Paint the scallop shell with medium purple and soft lilac, keeping the lines between the ridges visible.
- 4Color the seaweed with leaf green and mint green, and add tangerine orange to the fish tails.
- 5Add the bubbles in sky blue and bright blue, and leave the background white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on one side of each scale or shell ridge to make the drawing look more dimensional.
