Sun Mandala with Pointed and Wavy Rays

Coloring guide
The round center of this sun is left totally blank, so there's lots of room for a bright yellow or orange with no face to work around. Two kinds of rays take turns around the circle. Long pointed triangles reach out in eight directions, and tucked between them are curvy, flame-like rays with rounded tips that look a bit like ribbons. Outlines are thick and clean, which suits preschoolers and early elementary kids still building pencil control. Nothing sits behind the sun, just white paper. For a warm glow, try yellow in the middle, orange on the pointed rays and red or pink on the wavy ones. It's free to print, so you may want a few spare copies. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the round center of the sun with golden yellow, using smooth strokes that follow the circle.
- 2Color all the pointed rays with orange, including the tall top and bottom points and the rays on the left, right and diagonals.
- 3Fill the wavy rays with red orange, and use bright red for the two wavy rays at the top left and bottom left-center, so they stand out.
- 4Leave the background between the rays white, so the sun looks like it is shining on the page.
- 5Optional: Add a little darker orange at the base of the pointed rays near the sun, or a second layer of golden yellow in the center, to give the sun some depth.
