Five Kids Around a Big Heart for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Coloring guide
One large, empty heart sits in the middle of this page, with five cheerful kids gathered around it and plenty of blank space inside to color. Two children peek over the top with their hands resting on the edge. One has short spiky hair and a T-shirt, and the other has curly hair in two puffs and wears overalls. Along the bottom, a girl with a headband and long straight hair wears a skirt and shoes, and a curly-haired boy stands in the center in a T-shirt and shorts. On the right is a girl in a hijab and long pants. Most of them are waving with big grins. With no background, it's simple for little hands to color. Red or pink for the heart works well, and each child can get their own skin tone, outfit and hair color. This free printable fits a Martin Luther King Jr. Day lesson on friendship and kindness. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big heart in fire red, leaving a little white shine near the top curve.
- 2Color all the skin areas (faces, arms, hands, legs and necks) with skin peach, and use tan brown for the girl on the right's face and arm.
- 3Fill the boy's hair with chestnut brown and the afro-style buns and hair with charcoal black, leaving the white highlights untouched.
- 4Color the clothes: bright blue for the boy's shirt, leaf green for the middle boy's shirt, royal blue for his shorts, lavender purple for the left girl's top and the right girl's pants, and bubblegum pink for the right girl's top.
- 5Add light blue to the hijab and the girl's headband in lemon yellow, along with the lemon yellow skirt and overalls, then fill the shoes in raspberry pink, royal blue and lavender purple.
- 6Finish with coral red for the open mouths and olive gold for the overall buckle, keeping the teeth and eye whites white. Optional: add a slightly darker shade of each color along the edges for depth.
