Soaring Dove Printable for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Coloring guide
A graceful dove sails across the page with its wings spread wide, holding a small leafy olive branch in its beak. Each wing has big, layered feathers that are easy for little hands to color, and the fanned tail and tiny feet add a few more fun details. Behind the bird, a round sun with short rays shines in the upper right, and three puffy clouds float around the scene. Bold outlines and open spaces make it a good pick for preschoolers and early elementary kids. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a teacher or parent can talk about peace while the kids color. Soft grays and blues work on the feathers, bright green on the leaves, and sunny yellow and orange on the sun. This free printable is handy for classroom centers or quiet time at home. This fits right in with our Martin Luther King Jr. Day coloring pages — see also Christmas and Halloween.
A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- pale blue
- sky blue
- golden yellow
- leafy green
- tangerine orange
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big body of the dove, the wings, and the chest feathers in pale blue, using light strokes so the feathers stay soft.
- 2Fill the three clouds at the top left, bottom left, and lower right with sky blue, leaving the outlines clean.
- 3Color the sun disc and the two outer rays in golden yellow, leaving the small gaps between rays white.
- 4Color the olive branch leaves in leafy green, including the stem in pale blue as shown in the example.
- 5Add the beak and both feet with tangerine orange, filling the toes separately so each one stands out.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker blue along the underside of the wings and body for a gentle shadow, and leave the eye white with its black pupil.
