Five grinning sugar skulls sit together on this page, two on top and three below. Each has its own symbol on the forehead: a heart, a star, a flower, a spiral swirl and a sun with pointed rays. All five share big round eyes with scalloped, flower-like rings, little upside-down heart-shaped noses and wide toothy smiles. Small dots, teardrops, leaf-shaped flourishes and tiny hearts fill the cheeks and chins, which gives small hands plenty to do. Bold outlines and roomy shapes suit kids who like to take their time. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the skull faces, cheeks and jaw areas with cream, keeping the eye whites, teeth and empty background white.
- 2Color the big heart on the first skull rose red, and the star on the second skull golden yellow.
- 3Fill the flower on the bottom-left skull with violet purple and its center with golden yellow, then color the swirl on the middle skull sky blue.
- 4Color the noses hot pink, the sun on the bottom-right skull golden yellow, and the small drops by the foreheads sky blue or hot pink.
- 5Color the lower fangs turquoise on the left skull, and sky blue with an orange center on the right skull.
- 6Optional: add light shading along the edges of the skull and the flower petals with a slightly darker tone of the same color.
