Pond Party with Four Frogs, Balloons and a Drum

Four smiling frogs throw a party on a lily-pad pond. The frog on the left plays a striped drum with two drumsticks, and another frog on a big lily pad kicks up a leg and waves both arms like it's dancing. Below them, one frog stands holding a bunch of balloons with dots, stripes, and a heart, while the frog next to it holds a big daisy. A string of bunting with triangle flags, circles, and hearts hangs across the top, and a butterfly and a dragonfly flutter close by. Cattails, tall grasses, water lilies, and ripples fill out the pond. Large and small areas mean a range of ages can join in. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the pond and sky: paint the water, the sky background and the pond ripples with sky blue, and add royal blue to the distant water behind the frogs.
- 2Fill the big lily pads with bright green, then color the frogs' heads, arms, legs and feet with lime green, leaving the highlight spots on the cheeks light.
- 3Paint the frogs' bellies with cream yellow, including the balloon frog, the flower frog and the drummer frog, so they stand out against the green.
- 4Color the bushes and reeds with leaf green, and the tall cattails with rust brown on top, keeping the edges neat.
- 5Add the party details: cherry red for the polka dot balloon, tangerine orange for the striped balloon, golden yellow for the bunting circles and balloon, and lemon yellow for the drum body and pennant.
- 6Optional: add a little shading to the frogs with a slightly darker green, and finish the pink lotus flowers with rose pink and hot pink for the heart flag.
