This cartoon skeleton stands tall and waves hello with one raised hand, while its other arm hangs loose at its side. Big round eyes, a wide toothy grin and a bald rounded skull make it look cheerful and not scary. All the bones are drawn clearly: ribcage, spine, pelvis, arm and leg bones, finger bones and bare feet, so it's useful for a simple body lesson. A few small tufts of grass and some little pebbles surround its feet. With bold lines and roomy spaces, younger kids can color it without frustration. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the skull, jaw, arms, hands, legs and feet with bone cream, leaving the two eye whites and the teeth white.
- 2Color the pelvis and the hip area coral red, including the lower curved parts of the hip bones.
- 3Color the breastbone and all the ribs sky blue, keeping the gaps between the ribs clean.
- 4Fill the spine with lavender purple, from the neck down to the bottom of the back.
- 5Add soft orange to the collarbones, dusty lilac to the left shoulder blade, pale warm gray to the neck bone, and stone gray to the two rocks on the grass.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of the bones with a slightly deeper cream to make them look rounder.
