Banjo-Playing Frog on a Pond Log

Wearing a little brimmed hat, this frog sits on a fallen log and strums a banjo with a big open-mouth smile. Musical notes drift around its head, so you can nearly hear the tune. Look closely and you'll spot round, wide eyes, spots on the cheeks, arms and legs, and long webbed toes dipping into the rippling water. Tall cattails and grassy reeds stand on both sides, and a couple of lily pads float at the bottom. The cut end of the log shows tree rings, a nice spot for little hands to shade. A bright green frog with a yellow hat band looks good, and warm browns suit the log and banjo body. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the frog's head, body, arms and legs in lime green, leaving the eye whites and the little spots white.
- 2Fill the hat with golden tan and add a dark brown band around it.
- 3Color the log and the cattails in medium brown, then add light tan rings on the log's end.
- 4Color the grass, reeds and both lily pads in grass green, and paint the pond water sky blue.
- 5Fill the banjo face with cream yellow, color its rim light gray, and give the neck a medium brown tone.
- 6Finish with the open mouth in deep red, the tongue in coral pink, and the music notes in golden yellow. Optional: add a few darker strokes on the log for texture.
