Giant Snail Ride With a Happy Gnome

Riding on the back of a giant smiling snail, this gnome with a long white beard and tall pointed hat holds thin reins looped around the snail's neck. He wears little boots and has rosy cheeks, a round nose and a big grin. The snail has a large spiral shell, two tall eyestalks with round eyes and a friendly open smile. Daisy-style flowers with rounded petals rise on tall stems around them, and long blades of grass cover the sides and bottom. Thick outlines and large open areas work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. The spiral shell is a nice spot for two or three alternating colors, say orange, yellow and brown, with a bright red hat on the gnome. You can print or download it free, no sign-up. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the big snail body with golden yellow, including its happy face and long eye stalks.
- 2Color the spiral shell and the gnome's boots and handlebar in warm brown, then add a little dark tan shading on the shell.
- 3Fill the tall grass blades with grass green, and use forest green for the gnome's pants and the grass shadows.
- 4Color the gnome's pointed hat cherry red, his face, ears and hands peach skin, and his jacket sky blue; leave the beard white.
- 5Paint the flowers next: lavender purple petals on the top right, coral pink on the left, and light blue on the bottom left, with golden yellow centers.
- 6Optional: Add a touch of steel blue to the gnome's sleeve and light gray to the flower stems for depth, and keep the background and highlights white.
