In the middle of a round glass fishbowl, a smiling goldfish swims along. Up near the wavy water line on the top left, three bubbles drift upward. Leafy green plants grow on both sides of the fish along the bottom, and a row of smooth pebbles rests on the base of the bowl. Each section is marked with a number from 1 to 6, so kids can match colors to a simple key. The fish body and background areas are mostly big, which helps younger children build number recognition and pencil control. You could use orange for the fish body (1), yellow for the fins and tail (2), light blue for the bubbles (3) and green for the plants (4). A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the water inside the bowl and the background with pale aqua, leaving the eye shine white.
- 2Color the bowl rim, the water surface and the bowl base with sky blue, and the wavy water line band with bright blue.
- 3Paint the fish body and tail with tangerine orange, then the top fin and the pectoral fins with tangerine orange as well.
- 4Color the front of the head golden yellow, and fill the seaweed leaves with leaf green.
- 5Fill the pebbles with golden yellow, coral red and sky blue, and color the bubbles sky blue, leaving the eye shine white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker amber orange strokes on the fins and tail to bring out the texture, and leave a small white highlight in the eye.
