Behind a full drum kit sits a cheerful baby hippo with a drumstick in each hand, grinning with its mouth wide open. It has round ears, big sparkling eyes and two little teeth. In front are two tom drums, a large bass drum with a blank center and a cymbal on a tall stand. Curtains are tied back on both sides, and stars and musical notes float around the drummer. The big drum shapes and plain bass drum face keep things easy for little hands, and older kids have room to add patterns. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the hippo's head with light blue, leaving the eye shine and the teeth white.
- 2Color the hippo's body, arms and hands with sky blue.
- 3Fill both drums and the big bass drum with bright red, the drum heads with cream, and the hippo's mouth with tomato red.
- 4Color the drumsticks and the stage floor with warm tan, and add golden yellow to the cymbal, curtain tiebacks, stars, music notes and the yellow stage backdrop.
- 5Color the drum stands, lugs and clamps in silver gray, the stand feet in charcoal gray, and the inside of the ears and mouth in soft pink.
- 6Optional: add a few lighter or darker strokes on the hippo's body and drums to give them a little more depth.
