This cartoon volcano has both arms stretched wide and its mouth open in a big song, eyes gently closed. A small round chick perches on the crater rim, smiling with its eyes shut, and a single puffy cloud of smoke curls up beside it. Drippy lava lines circle the top of the cone, and a few small circles and action marks float near the peak to show the volcano's joyful rumble. Two leafy bushes and a couple of little rocks sit at the base. Bold, clean outlines and roomy shapes make it a good fit for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or markers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big volcano body: fill it with chocolate brown, staying inside the black outlines around the arms and legs.
- 2Color the drippy lava cap on top of the volcano in golden yellow, then fill the crater opening with bright orange.
- 3Color the little chick in lemon yellow, leaving its eyes and beak outline ready for small details.
- 4Fill the two bushes and the grass tufts with leaf green, then color the three rocks light gray.
- 5Color the open mouth brick red and add the coral pink tongue at the bottom of the mouth.
- 6Finish with the floating dots around the volcano in bright orange. Optional: add a few darker strokes of chocolate brown on the volcano body for a little texture.
