Heart of Candy Canes with a Bow and Peppermints

Coloring guide
Two striped candy canes curve toward each other to make a big heart. Where they cross near the bottom, a ribbon bow with a square knot holds them together, and its two tails hang over the straight ends of the canes. Along the bottom edge sit three swirled peppermints and two small plain round candies in a row. Thick outlines and open spaces work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or chunky markers, while the curved stripes give older kids a bit more to do. Red and white stripes with a bright green bow look festive, and pink or red swirls suit the peppermints. Download the free PDF for a classroom project or a weekend craft. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big heart in the middle and the candy cane stripes with bright red, leaving the white stripes white.
- 2Color the bow loops, tails and center knot with holly green to make the ribbon pop.
- 3Color the two lower candy cane legs in bright red, using brick red for a few of the darker swirl sections, and keep their white stripes clean.
- 4Fill the peppermint candies with bright red and white swirls, and color the right-hand peppermint with warm gray.
- 5Color the two round green balls holly green and leave the small shiny spots white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading along one side of the heart and bow to give them some depth.
