Fairy-Tale Heart Castle for Valentine's Day

Up on a grassy hill stands a fairy-tale castle where nearly every window is shaped like a heart. Pointed towers wear scalloped, scale-patterned rooftops, small flags fly from the spires, and a big arched wooden door with tiny hearts on it opens onto a winding stone path. A rainbow arcs behind the towers, with fluffy clouds and floating hearts on both sides. Blooming flowers, leafy plants and a few heart shapes line the path in front, and round trees stand on either side of the castle. A mix of small and bigger spaces makes it a good choice for crayons or colored pencils, and kids can take their time. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the rainbow: color the bands bright red, orange, golden yellow, bright green, and sky blue, leaving the gaps in the sky white.
- 2Fill the clouds with light sky blue, then color the castle walls and path area cream and sandy brown, keeping the white flower petals and tree trunks white.
- 3Color the castle battlements and small flags with light pink and hot pink, and add the heart-shaped door details in chocolate brown.
- 4Paint the hills and grass with bright green, the trees and bushes with leaf green, and the darker bush at the left with dark green.
- 5Add the bubblegum pink tulips and the pale gray flower for variety, and fill the hearts on the castle and in the sky with hot pink.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade of each color along one side of the shapes to give the castle a little depth.
