Here's a grinning turtle cruising down a city street on a skateboard, one arm out for balance and its tongue poking out. It's dressed in a vented helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards and round knee pads, which makes it a nice excuse to chat about skating safely. The shell has big sections that are simple to color. In the background you'll see a tall street lamp, apartment buildings with lots of windows, rounded bushes, a road with dashed center lines and a few puffy clouds. Just so you know, this isn't one of the masked Ninja Turtle characters. It's a friendly turtle with no mask or weapons. Younger kids can handle the large shapes, and the windows and buildings give older kids more to do. Bright green skin and a bold red helmet and pads would stand out against a softer gray city. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the turtle's head, arms, legs, hands and feet with lime green, leaving the eye whites, the eye shine and the tongue for later.
- 2Color the big front shell plates in golden yellow, keeping the thin shell borders white or lightly outlined.
- 3Color the helmet, the elbow and knee pads, and the wristbands in sky blue, then fill the skateboard wheels with bright blue.
- 4Paint the skateboard deck bright red and the tongue coral pink, with the eyes left white with a small shine.
- 5Color the buildings in orange, light orange and coral pink, the windows in pale blue, and the lamp post top in pale yellow.
- 6Fill the bushes with grass green and leaf-style darker green, the lamp post in dark teal, and the sidewalk in very light gray. Optional: add a little forest green shading under the shell and the bushes for depth.
