Hen and Chicks Near the Coop for Easter

Coloring guide
This farmyard page shows a smiling mother hen with three fluffy chicks gathered close, which makes it a sweet choice for kids who love baby animals. The hen has big friendly eyes, a scalloped comb and a layered wing, and the chicks peek out with small wings and tiny beaks. A large egg rests in the grass at the lower right. Behind them stands a wooden chicken coop with a ramp up to its open door, and on the left there's a short fence post and rail. Grass tufts and a few simple daisies cover the ground. Soft yellow chicks, an orange-red comb and brown wood tones for the coop would look great. Free to print for spring and Easter fun at home or in class. Love this Easter coloring page? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the hen's body, head and the three chicks' bodies with tawny orange for the hen and bright yellow for the chicks, leaving the chicks' feet and beaks for later.
- 2Color the hen's wings, back feathers and tail with rust brown, and add caramel brown to the feathers around the neck for a warm, layered look.
- 3Paint the coop walls and roof planks in tawny orange, then use rust brown on the roof and steps to show the wood grain, and leave the door in dark brown.
- 4Color the comb and wattle in tomato red and the beak in amber orange, then fill the two eggs with pale peach.
- 5Add leaf green to the grass tufts and flower stems, and use cream yellow for the flower petals, keeping the eye whites, flower centers and ground background white.
- 6Optional: Add a little rust brown shading along the chicks' bodies and the hen's wing edges to make the drawing look softer and more three-dimensional.
