How to Draw a Colonial Man With Spyglass

Coloring guide

Six small steps show how to draw a cartoon man in an old-fashioned long coat, starting with a simple oval head and a boxy body shape. Next come the side curls of a powdered wig, a smiling face, and one arm stretched out to the side. Later steps add a coat with rows of round buttons, a high collar, trim down the front, and two oval shoes. In the final steps he holds a long telescope up in his raised hand, and the last panel is colored in with a blue coat, a yellow vest, a gray wig, and brown shoes. Kids can follow along panel by panel, then color their own version. Try using the finished example as a guide for the blue and yellow, or pick completely different coat colors. It also works well for a history lesson on colonial clothing or sea explorers.
